Learn how to use the NaviTip FX Tip for effective endodontic irrigation. Step-by-step instructions for simultaneous cleaning, scrubbing, and irrigating.

Quick Answer

Use the NaviTip FX Tip to clean, scrub, and irrigate the root canal simultaneously—its unique side-vented design delivers irrigant while the tip mechanically disrupts biofilm.

Why Use a Side-Vented Irrigation Tip?

Traditional open-ended needles can push debris beyond the apex, increasing post-operative discomfort. The NaviTip FX Tip's side-vented design directs irrigant laterally, reducing apical extrusion while still reaching the working length.

The tip also features a flexible, rounded end that scrubs canal walls as you deliver irrigant—combining mechanical debridement with chemical disinfection in one pass.

Step-by-Step Irrigation with NaviTip FX

  1. Select the correct gauge and length: Choose a NaviTip FX Tip that fits your canal preparation size and working length. The tip should reach within 1–2 mm of the apex without binding. Using a tip that is too large can lock into the canal and prevent backflow of irrigant.
  2. Attach to a Luer-lock syringe: Firmly twist the NaviTip FX onto a standard Luer-lock syringe filled with your chosen irrigant (e.g., sodium hypochlorite). Ensure a snug fit to avoid leakage during use. A loose connection can cause irrigant to spray outside the canal, reducing delivery accuracy.
  3. Insert the tip to working length: Gently advance the tip into the canal until you feel light resistance near the working length. Do not force it—the flexible tip is designed to follow the canal curvature. Forcing the tip can ledge the canal or cause the tip to separate.
  4. Irrigate with gentle in-and-out motion: While delivering irrigant at low to moderate pressure, move the tip up and down in short strokes (2–3 mm). This scrubs the canal walls and flushes debris coronally. Avoid locking the tip in place—continuous movement prevents irrigant from being trapped apically.
  5. Withdraw and repeat as needed: After 30–60 seconds of irrigation, slowly withdraw the tip while still delivering a small amount of irrigant to keep the canal flooded. Repeat with fresh irrigant until the canal is clean. Never withdraw the tip while the syringe is under high pressure—this can cause irrigant to spray uncontrollably.
